Swanland School Update
I remember exactly one year ago walking around the muddy, flooded site of Swanland School Nairobi thinking how wonderful it would be to relocate the school to a better location with improved facilities. Well, just one year on, amazingly we are there! Thank you to everyone who has given so generously to the building fund. £35k seems a lot of money, but to think we can build a school for 250 children and 20 teachers and support staff with that amount is truly amazing.
We must acknowledge the excellent work of Chryspin and Flouridah in Nairobi who have project managed the build and we now look forward to the whole school moving in over their Easter holidays.
John and Shirley Waters will have the opportunity to see the new school when they make our annual Trustee visit in June this year.
Esther’s School Update
I love this picture because it shows us how the work of supporting these students continues after they leave our schools. Esther arranged for a reunion for students who have left to join high schools in the past two years. All of them received some form of bursary award from us to help with the initial costs of joining a high school.
We have known and supported many of them from being just very young children living in poverty, with no access to primary school, to now being confident young men and women who will go on to great things I’m sure.
It really is the best form of support we can give and we look forward to seeing how their lives develop and what future opportunities lay ahead!
Thank you for being part of this amazing work – we can’t do any of this without your support. There are 700 children across the two schools on a similar path, receiving care, education and a bright hope for the future!
